Pray:
9 “Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’]
Matthew 6:9-13 (NASB)
Read:
We are to address Him as Father. This is a term of endearment. Some of us find this easy, to see Him as Father. To others it is difficult. One reason is His distance. He is in heaven. We are on earth. Yet, we are to view Him with the intimacy of family. We see the world from our own self-centered perspective. Calling God our father refocuses our hearts to remember that He made us. He is the source of all things. Jesus came and brought God near. Our geographic distance is transcended by Christ. Jesus came near, and through Him, we have been adopted into His family. We can address God as Father because He is.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:12-13 (NASB)
Pray:
Father
Transform my life, replacing myself at the center with you at the center. Thank You for life. Thank You for eternal life. Help me to look to you with a childlike faith. Cause my eyes to gaze upon you, not on myself or my busyness. May Your light shine in my life and my household this Christmas season. May it be a season rather than a day. May it be spent in Your presence.
Amen
