Pray:
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13 (CSB)
Read:
6 While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 Then she gave birth to her firstborn son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Luke 2:6-7 (CSB)
“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.
John 6:35 (CSB)
25 “Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
Matthew 6:25-26 (CSB)
We need food and water every day. Without it we would perish. God wants us to look to Him as our provider. Jesus instructs His disciples to pray for their food. We should not feel guilty to ask God to provide for our needs. It often feels selfish, but God is the source of everything. He is the creator and sustainer of all things. Having faith is about entrusting oneself into God’s care. However, He wants to do more than provide for our physical needs. Ultimately, we are to understand that He, Himself is what is required for life. Our souls were created to survive on God. He is our nourishment and sustenance. God wants to be our source. He wants us to place our trust in Him. He is our “bread”, our “living water”, and our light and life. Look to Him and place your trust in Him.
Pray:
Lord,
I know I am nothing without You. I place my trust in You. Help me to trust in a way that puts You are at the center of my survival. You are what I need for life. Give me the ability to live the reality of trusting You for my daily bread, both physical and spiritual. Help me to live without the anxiety of worrying about tomorrow. I give myself, my heart, my desires, and my circumstances to You. Draw near and provide me with Your presence.
Amen
