Pray:
9 Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13 (NLT)
Read:
What does it mean for His name to be hallowed, or to be kept holy? Thinking about God’s holiness and God’s love can seem contradictory, but it is not. God’s love provided Christ as a way to bridge the gap between our humanity, broken by sin, and God’s holiness. To be holy is to be pure, to be set apart. At Christmas we celebrate God coming near in the person of Jesus. While He is near, let us not forget that He is above. To hallow or make holy His name is to elevate it above all else that we have. He is above ourselves, our possessions, our money, our relationships, our plans, and our ambitions. We are to raise our hearts and voices in worship, just as the angels did when they appeared to the shepherds.
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Luke 2:13-14 (NLT)
Pray:
“You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
Revelation 4:11 (NLT)
Lord,
You are holy. Your ways are pure. I acknowledge Your greatness. Let me always see You as Holy. Help me to see You as greater than my life, my relationships, my possessions and my ambitions. Be exalted over every area of my life. Guide my steps to glorify You in all I do.
Amen
