Complete the Task

You should see my office.  I have about 12 different projects started.  They are all good projects, meant to make a difference. There is the advent devotional sketched out.  There is the next Bible Study with 3 different books started.  There are another 3 books started waiting to be finished…..you get the picture.

2 Corinthians 8:10-12 (CSB)

10 And in this matter I am giving advice because it is profitable for you, who began last year not only to do something but also to want to do it. 11 Now also finish the task, so that just as there was an eager desire, there may also be a completion, according to what you have. 12 For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

This verse in 2nd Corinthians is in the context of money.  Paul is collecting money from all the churches to take to fellow believers that are in need.  We see in chapter 9 that the Corinthian church had previously promised this gift. Paul is encouraging follow-through. And oh how this is something I need. I can be very remiss about follow-through.  God has laid on my heart some areas of giving.  Giving is a very complex subject.  It however becomes far less complex when God is asking for something specific.  I struggle with the fact that the areas of need and the organizations asking is overwhelming.  But, God has not asked me to give to everything, just to some things.  This has prompted me to make good on some of the needs that God has asked me to meet.

Giving is not the only area God has challenged me to move forward on.  I am teaching Bible Study and I am writing this blog.  As we go through this Christmas season I will be working on that advent devotional.  I plan to be through the Bible Study books to be ready to start the spring Bible study.  I am not sure about the 3 started books….we’ll see!

What about you?  I am not trying to imply that you do any certain thing. I am challenging you, however, to do the thing God is asking you to do.  Don’t just start.  Carry it on to completion.
